This piece was a real challenge, but I learned a TON in the process. Night time lighting, as I've learned, has been my kryptonite. Subconsciously, I'm prone to having too much illumination in my scenes. Learning to dial back my lights, and realize that less is more has helped me in achieving the most lifelike representation of my scene. A big obstacle I had to overcome was the fire simulation I created that was imported from Houdini into Maya. And a fun/unpredicted turnout was making my first ZBrush brush!
